Orange County Wrap Holiday Party and Heart of Wraparound Award Recipient

Every year, on the first Thursday of December, the County of Orange Social Service Agency (who Kinship Center's Wraparound Program holds a contract with) hosts a holiday party for all the wraparound providers and staff, currently 7 agencies and close to 200 people.  The party is a time for appreciation, acknowledgement, and a year end celebration.  A holiday committee with representatives from each of agency obtains cheap or no cost décor, raffle prizes, etc that build on the celebration theme.  This year’s theme was Candy Land.

One of the highlights of the event was when Executives from each of the agencies involved (health care agency, probation, and social services) acknowledged and showed their appreciation of the work being done through Wrap.  The best part was hearing them announce the decreasing number of children in group home care due to programs like Wrap.

Another highlight of the event was the presentation of the Heart of Wraparound award.  Every year, each agency is able to vote for one person per agency that they believe embodies the principles of Wraparound ans should be recognized.  Kinship Center is proud to announce 2012 winner of the Heart of Wraparound award Carol Lyskoski.  Carol is a Parent Partner.  She and her family were actually “wrapped” in 2007 by Kinship Center for her adoptive son.  She then became a Parent Partner with us in 2011.  Carol is a step-mom, birth mom, and adoptive mom. Hairdresser by trade and mom, advocate for life!

She was nominated for her ability to provide non-judgmental unconditional support and coaching to each of the parents/families she works with.  Carol does a great job of engaging both parents, utilizing available resources/training/educational materials but assesses the appropriate fit for individualization, is an excellent team member, and also balances the hands-on work with consistent documentation and timeliness.  She’s been yelled at, she’s been called names, she has cleaned houses and cooked meals with parents and through it all, she does it with a smile, understanding, patience, and overall vision for the family’s needs. Congratulations Carol!
